Coty and a Mom's Survival

As an advocacy organization run by people with disabilities, it is impossible for us not to sit by without sending out an alarm that something needs to be done when we come across a story like Coty's.  His mother, like many mothers of children with severe developmental disabilities, has gone through a fire not experienced by many.  She has gone through enormous physical and emotional trials as her son has outgrown her ability to care for him.  Due to his mother's incredible loving sacrifices, Coty has had a much better life with dignity and opportunity not afforded to him otherwise, but, time and age have made this situation turn into crisis mode:

“Funding cuts and problems with Medicaid Waivers are creating serious problems state-wide for people with Developmental Disabilities. The quality and quantity of community services has been drastically diminished in the last few months. If significant changes are not made in the funding system, services for our most vulnerable citizens will continue to decline. “
